Sir Des Champs could go right to the top

Sir Des Champ's victory in the Jewson was a remarkable one on the clock. He ran faster than Riverside Theatre for the whole of the final circuit, and about 2.5 scs quicker from the third last to the line. He's an excellent jumper of a fence and has a bright future .Champion court 2nd must also be given great credit, having help set a searching gallop throughout. I'll  be treating the Ryanair form with some caution, the fact that so many were in contention at the last also give doubts to the form.Of the handicappers ALFIE SHERRIN,and BELLVANO both ran fast times and could be worth following under suitable conditions                          follow our daily advise on              09063 445445  calls cost 1.53/min,plus network extras, calls from mobiles may be significantly higher

Billie Magern is interesting in Paddy Power

A drop back to 2m 4f on fast ground seemed to bring out the best in Ollie Magerns full brother ,who landed the feature at Cheltenham on Saturday.Straight after the race the sponsors priced him up at 25/1,and although it looks like being a strong renewel this year,on decent ground that price would appear to be  too big.He covered the final circuit quicker than Lancetto(rated 135) winner of the 2m nov chase ,having run half a mile further, and some 4 seconds quicker than Balthazar King who won the 3m handicap on the same card.

Looking forward to Chepstow's curtain raiser

After a quiet betting week last week, this Saturday sees the first jumps meeting of the year at Chepstow. In the "good old days " this meeting was covered by the beeb and was widely considered to be the start of the jumps season proper. It no longer enjoys terrestrial tv coverage ,but never the less does signify that the winter season is stepping up a notch or two,and things will certainly start to get much busier soon.  Optimum racing had two runners last week, both dissappointing,Be Ashored who in fairness jumped well on his chase debut, finished 6th,and Saqil who was novicy to say the least over the first 2 or 3 on his hurdles debut finished 5th.        i've no doubt both will do better in the future.     I'll be at Exeter on thursday and hopefully  Chepstow  on Saturday later this week, very much looking forward to the rest of the season, but no doubt remembering the days when this Chepstow fixture carried a lot more significance

Back with a winner

After taking  a summer break from the chasing scene ,it was good to be back jumping yesterday. We advised just the one bet on the day Persian Gates in the 0-110 h'cap chase.Having pulled his way to the front with a circuit to go,he made light of the opposition winning with ease. It's likely the handicapper will react by raising him in the region of 10lb,however that may not be enough to stop him following up judged on yesterday's performance. From the first fence down the back,to the final fence ,Persian Gates was only 2.5 secs slower than Benny be Good ,who won the feature race off a mark of 143.Bearing in mind Persian Gates appeared not to be fully extended i've given him a provisional rating of 120-125.     Benny Be Good won the competitive 50k handicap,he'd impressed when winning back to back races at Sedgefield, and was given a favourable mention on our line from a handicapping point of view, however i was somewhat put off having watched his one previous try on a right handed track, when at Carlisle he jumped badly left handed.Yesterday he showed only a slight tendency to jump left, which didnt stop him landing the valuable prize.
